One of the main challenges facing the city of Cusco is the great traffic congestion. In this study, an intersection in the San Sebastián district was analyzed. For this, a thorough evaluation of the intersection of Av. Culture and Bolívar Street from a broader perspective, which takes into account the levels of service at traffic light intersections, the vehicle capacity that passes through these intersections daily during 7 days a week and during peak hours of high vehicle demand. Likewise, the main objective is to propose solutions to improve mobility, pedestrian accessibility, road safety and vehicle service levels, providing optimal service and reducing vehicle congestion. Likewise, to evaluate the capacity and service levels on Av. La Cultura and Bolívar Street, the Highway Capacity Manual methodology was used. Based on this analysis and having all the data collected, a new traffic light cycle is proposed at the intersection with the purpose of reducing delays for users. Likewise, the Vissim software was incorporated which allows us to carry out simulations of the intersections in their current state and their state in the future with traffic light changes. Finally, the analysis of the study carried out is presented, which presents the improvement in the variables related to the congestion present at the intersection.
