In Peru, the existing road network consists of approximately 173,785 km; however, it has been recorded that more than 82% is not paved. This high percentage directly affects access to basic services, impairs the development of economic activities, prolongs transportation time and reduces the level of safety. The objective of this project is to redesign the geometry of the Punyan - Cruce Quillash section of the AN-829 road in order to improve the safe design that all roads should have. Delimiting the scope to the parameters that influence safety. For example, the number of critical curves, minimum road width and safety signage. The methodology used includes research and field work. The first step is to describe the current status of the case study with respect to the geometric design that decreases transportation efficiency and poor road safety. The second step is to identify the parameters and collect field data. Then the geometric design of the road is elaborated in accordance with the DG-2018 manual and as a last step it is redesigned to correct the safety of the road. As a result, it has been demonstrated that the geometric redesign influences the safety of the road. It was possible to improve the radius of 7 critical curves that represented points where the parameters of the DG-2018 manual were not complied with and to increase the lane width by 25% of the surface under study.
