This professional sufficiency paper proposes the design of an Automated and Controlled System for wood drying in the Peruvian Micro, Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (MSMEs), based on a conventional drying system with the purpose of reducing the Moisture Content (CH) in the wood. The wood CH is an initial and fundamental variable in the fabrication process of wood derivative products, which is a requirement in the furniture certification and wood products exportation. Therefore, and because of the MSME’s economic gap to obtain artificial drying technology, it is proposed the creation of an automated system for conventional drying, using technical knowledge in the cellular treatment of wood, electronics technology placed in the national market and the necessary knowledge in electronics for the automatization of the processes involved, that are going to be directed by a Programable Logic Controller proposed in the system. This professional sufficiency paper consists of six chapters. The first chapter presents the definition of the project involved in the wood drying process, detailing the state of art, problem statement, objectives, justification, description of the proposed solution and feasibility. The second chapter describes the theoretical framework referring to the wood drying process, knowing the theoretical description of the wood, cuts, types of drying, water in the wood, defects and variables in the drying process. The third chapter develops the proposal. First, the description of the hardware stage is detailed, which will describe the general architecture of the project, involved instrumentation, necessary heating system and hardware design of the electrical control panel. On the other hand, the control stage is designed, detailing the drying programs and the man-machine operation interface. The Forth chapter details the final conclusions and recommendations of the proposed system.
