The translation of specialized medical texts represents a constant challenge in scientific communication. It is not only necessary to be proficient in the languages involved, but also in information management to convey the message in its entirety. In this paper, a critical-commented translation of a Clinical Practice Guideline addressed to health professionals is presented in order to address the particularities of medical language, as well as to analyze the translation of clinical recommendations related to the use of opioids to treat chronic pain from English into Latin American Spanish. This analysis focuses on lexical-semantic, morphosyntactic and stylistic-pragmatic aspects, identifies the challenges present in the original text and how they were resolved in the translation. This research highlights the relevance of translation in the dissemination of specialized medical information and its impact on the fight against the opioid crisis by ensuring access to this information to communities that do not use English as their primary language.
