The construction industry represents one of the most important activities in the country's economy. There is a substantial increase in the use of materials; however, this consumption also leads to a greater generation of waste inherent to construction processes. Current models of planning, control, and project management have developed resource optimization methodologies to reduce waste, such as Lean Construction and concepts adopted from the Toyota Production System (TPS). However, these methodologies primarily focus on time and cost waste, while neglecting the management of solid waste and its impact on the sustainability of construction projects. Therefore, this research proposes the development of a waste management model to reduce solid waste in construction projects. To achieve this, the Kaizen methodology was employed, with a primary emphasis on the Kaizen event tool as the foundation of the organizational transformation process. This process aims to improve the economic, social, and environmental aspects of constructions through a chain of actions and cooperative work applicable in the short term. The applied methodology is documentary in nature. Factors that generate solid waste in the structural phase, including materials such as steel, pre-mixed concrete, bricks, and mortar, were identified. Among the main causes of solid waste production are losses in cutting and overproduction. The construction of the waste management model based on the Kaizen method is presented, which is divided into four stages: pre-Kaizen, action plan, implementation, and standardization. To validate the management model, a focus group was conducted with three experts in line with the research, where 100% of the participants agreed with the proposed model. Based on the analysis of the results obtained from the focus group, it is suggested to add incentives in stage 1, introduce a process for preventing bad practices in stage 2, and implement a control and discussion process for lessons learned in stage 4, thus generating a final condition: “Are the lessons free from negative effects?“
