This work is focused on the area of project management in engineering and construction services companies, whose importance has increased among project managers and managers themselves due to the need to meet the organizations' objectives. According to the literature review, it is evident that the main problems of cost, time and scope in projects are due to the inadequate use of appropriate tools in planning and control. Likewise, most research studies the impact of project management in large companies, however, the importance of project management in SMEs is not covered. In this way, an SME of engineering and construction services was taken as a case study, where the main problem identified was the low profits obtained from the executed projects. Therefore, it was proposed to improve project management by applying the good practices of the PMBOK, specifically in the management of costs, time, and risks, because the causes of the problem were related to these 3 areas. The design of the improvement was carried out for the planning, execution, and control processes of the projects, which was implemented in an electrical maintenance project prepared for a client company, with the purpose of verifying whether the expected results are met. The work is divided into 4 chapters. The first is the definition of the project, in which the sector is contextualized, the main problem in the case study company and its causes are identified, to establish the objectives and indicators. In the second chapter, the theoretical framework and the review of the literature related to this work are carried out. The third chapter details the proposed solution and the implementation stage. Finally, in the last part are the conclusions and recommendations of the results obtained.
