The present investigation had the objective of determining the association between the dimensions of emotional self-regulation and emotional dependence in young university students from Metropolitan Lima; and to compare both variables according to sex. A quantitative study was designed, with an associative strategy and a correlational design, with a sample of 212 participants, between 18 and 27 years of age. The Emotional Self-Regulation Questionnaire (ERQP) and the Emotional Dependency Scale (ACCA) duly validated in the Peruvian population and a sociodemographic survey were applied. The results of the correlational study show that cognitive reappraisal was not associated with any of the four dimensions of emotional dependence (rs < .06). Emotional suppression correlated positively with the perception of self-efficacy (rs =.293) and negatively with the abandonment of one's own plans to satisfy the plans of others (rs = -.184). Regarding the fear of loneliness or abandonment (rs = -.075) and partner idealization (rs = -.062) did not correlate with the dimensions of emotional self-regulation. Likewise, the results of the comparative study show that men use more resources to regulate their emotions, compared to women, with cognitive reappraisal being the strategy they use the most. Finally, in the dimensions of emotional dependence there were no differences according to sex.
