An investigation was carried out whose purpose was to determine the impact of innovation in the value chain of the main banks of Metropolitan Lima. A quantitative approach was developed in which 2 types of scopes were applied: Descriptive, to evaluate which bank has a greater or lesser innovation in its activities and in the same way with the dimensions of the value chain. Explanatory, to assess the impact of innovation dimensions in the value chain. A survey was applied to 384 clients that belonged to the four main banks (Banco del Crédito del Perú, BBVA, Interbank and Scotiabank) through the Likert scaling method. The measurement instrument was validated by three experts with extensive knowledge of the banking sector and the main variables of the study. The results of this research were that the dimensions of innovation by (a) product, (b) process, (c) commercial and (d) organizational significantly affect the value chain of the main banks. Therefore, it is concluded that these dimensions have an impact on each sub-activity of the value chain of these banking entities. Likewise, commercial innovation obtained a greater significance with respect to the value chain and on the other hand, organizational innovation obtained less impact compared to the dependent variable. It is recommended that national governments allocate a budget for activities related to innovation, since it is important for the development of companies in general and not only for the banking sector.
