During the pandemic period, COVID-19 and social isolation were presented as a threat to physical and mental health, causing psychological consequences such as stress, anxiety, and fear, which affected different areas of their lives linked to well-being. The objective of this study was to analyze the relationship between the meaning of life and the fear of contagion of COVID-19 in university students residing in Metropolitan Lima, as well as to identify differences in both variables according to sex. A sample of 200 university students was used (men: 43% and women: 57%), with an average age of 22.7 years. The instruments applied were the Purpose of Life Scale (PIL) and the Fear of COVID-19 Scale (FCV-19S). The results demonstrated that the dimensions of meaning in life are negatively related to the fear of contagion of COVID-19. Specifically, a negative and statistically significant correlation is shown between the somatic expression of fear and perception. It was found that the emotional fear reaction is negatively correlated and statistically significant with the perception dimension. Furthermore, regarding the emotional reaction dimension, the study resulted in a negative and statistically significant correlation with the experience dimension. The data analyzed reported statistically significant differences in the meaning of life according to the experience and death subscale between the men and women belonging to the sample. It is concluded that the meaning of life may be associated with the behaviors of university students to confront negative emotions in a specific context, such as fear of contagion of COVID-19.
