This research compiles and evaluates the financial results during the period from 2017 to 2021 of 70 Peruvian companies listed on the Lima Stock Exchange and that are part of the calculation of the Capital Structure and Net Profit Margin indicators. The central objective is to propose a framework that can determines whether there is a direct and significant relationship between the variables through the calculation of the Pearson and Spearman correlation coefficients. A quantitative, explanatory methodology is applied, which aims to verify if there is a preference pattern in decision-making for the construction of financing taking into consideration two theories about the capital structure: Trade-Off and Pecking Order. It remains for further research to iterate data with the same proposed methodological framework, segmenting the analysis for each economic sector: agricultural, industrial, and commercial (diverse), and/or using other samples with different characteristics.
