OPP FILM S.A., is a company specialized in the manufacture of polypropylene, polyester and nylon films for flexible packaging of food products, coated films for graphic manufacturing and thermoformed polypropylene products. It has a large amount of production machinery in its industrial plants, but technology has advanced rapidly, making its machinery outdated. In relation to the above, the company had the need to develop an automation project in line 1 of the chemical reactor. This line is the main phase of the process to obtain a correct quality of the product, here are tanks, mixers, condensers, valves, etc. but its operation of the process is done mostly manually, which has caused failures, losses and increase of personnel. For this reason, it was necessary to incorporate a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) for the control of the physical variables, an HMI panel and a SCADA system for a quick response to failures and errors. This does not only involve programming the controller, it is necessary to do more engineering work, since the control of the variables and the correct communication of the equipment must be taken into account in order to obtain a proper operation. The objective of this project is to develop the automation of the chemical reactor to have less losses and meet better quality standards of the product, with the implementation of appropriate sensors for the new monitoring and automatic control system.
