Due to the concern about the preservation of biodiversity resources, in 1996 at the VI Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity, the main theme was empathized to the representatives of each country that natural resources require special attention. For this reason, the importance of sustainable use was established and the term Biotrade was defined for the first time. In Peru, there has been evidence of a progressive development in encouraging the implementation of Biotrade, to promote commercial activities under social, environmental, and economic criteria, Between the years 2016 and 2021, forty-three products were exported under Biotrade, one of the main products being tara, cochineal, Brazil nuts and passion fruit. The Peruvian tara reached a greater participation in the total exports of Biotrade, since it is a second place with a total exported value that amounts to more than US$ 65 millions of dollars at the end of the year 2021. Likewise, within the derivatives they mainly find tara gum and tara powder. This last one has a greater quantity and total value exported at the end of 2021. The various initiatives, programs, strategies that have been developed to promote Biotrade in Peruvian products and the growth of exports of tara powder are an attractive study for this product derived from biodiversity.
