Research in translation studies has focused on the product and neglected the actual process, leading people to underestimate the complexity of translation and the value of professional translators. As a result, annotated translation research has emerged to provide a transparent and explanatory view of the translation process, allowing readers to understand the decisions made and the challenges faced by translators. The purpose of this particular research is to discover how the specialized translation of the literature review Health and Environmental Impacts of Pyrethroid Insecticides: What We Know, What We Don’t Know and What We Should Do About It has been approached from a functionalist perspective. This research is divided into three stages: pre-translation analysis, translation proper, and post-translation analysis, each of which involves different tasks. First, a comprehensive examination of the source text will be conducted to understand and identify its specific characteristics and possible difficulties. Secondly, thinking aloud protocols will be used to articulate the cognitive processes during the translation of the source text from a functionalist approach. After that, a contrastive analysis will be carried out to examine how the communicative functions have been transferred to the target text, with a focus on the prominent ones, such as the appellative and the referential functions. The research will conclude with a comprehensive report outlining the implications of this project, and in the last section the final translation of the chosen text will be presented.
