This study is based on the research carried out by the authors, called “Lean Manufacturing Production Method using the Change Management Approach to Reduce Backorders at SMEs in the Footwear Industry in Peru”. The objective of this investigation was to increase production capacity and decrease backorders; for which a diagnosis of the current situation of the company was made, finding the activities that do not generate value in the production area of the company. In recent years, the company's revenues have been financially affected (9.5% loss) by the costs of excessive use of overtime and unevenness in its production line. For the identification of the origin of the delay of the orders, a tree of causes was made, where it was found that the inefficient work method, the excessive time of transportation of the product, the high percentage of defective products and the waits between processes, were the main causes. The proposed design was divided into phases, starting with change management to raise awareness among workers; followed by planning and training; then it was the reorganization of the work area, where the SLP and 5S were used; followed by the improvement of the line of work; and finally, continuous improvement with the kaizen tool. Finally, the results demonstrate the efficient application of lean tools, since production capacity increased by 12%, and with this, delayed orders were reduced by 31.12%.
