Webtoons are a genre from South Korea, and has gained popularity recently due to its combination of text with visual and acoustic elements and easy readability (scrolling). Its translation into several languages has allowed it to spread worldwide. The webtoon Mage & Demon Queen, created by artist Kuru and published by the Webtoon company, tells the story of Malori, a student mage who seeks to make Velverosa, the demon queen and antagonist, fall in love with her. The dialogues, facial expressions, and onomatopoeias can evidence the interaction between the protagonists. Mage & Demon Queen was translated into Spanish by fans through the Webtoon Translate platform. It is assumed that the onomatopoeias that build the relationship between the main characters, which will be analyzed through the metafunctions of language, have been translated through the equivalence and borrowing translation techniques, taking into consideration the combination of the verbal and visual modes that distinguish in this genre. To develop this research, a qualitative approach will be adopted using the case study strategy, a multimodal content analysis will be carried out, as well as a multimodal contrastive analysis.
