Verbal politeness and impoliteness plays an important role in audiovisual contents. An example of this occurs in the film Pride and Prejudice (2005), where the translation of politeness and impoliteness influences the perception of the characters. Pride and Prejudice is a British-made romantic film, based on the novel of the same name by Jane Austen, which was released in 2005. In this movie, the characters frequently make use of politeness and impoliteness in their interactions. In this context, this study assumes that politeness and impoliteness contribute to the characterization of the characters in audiovisual products, since the use of these linguistic elements would demonstrate the personality and behaviors of the characters. Thus, the aim of this research is to study how the translation of politeness and impoliteness in the Latin American Spanish dubbing of the movie Pride and Prejudice (2005) contributes to the characterization of its main and secondary characters. For this research, a case study has been carried out and the following data collection techniques will be used: content analysis and contrastive textual analysis. The first technique will allow us to analyze the original version of the movie in English and its version dubbed into Latin American Spanish; and the second technique will allow us to contrast the original version of the movie with its version dubbed into Latin American Spanish.
