In the last decade, the architecture, engineering and construction industry has been enhanced by the application of innovative techniques in the design process with virtual construction of buildings, complemented by lean execution methods within a collaborative process environment using Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) and Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) to deliver value to clients. VDC is an integrated management approach that includes Buildng Informaton Modeling (BIM), Concurrent Engineering Sessions (ICE) and Project Production Management (PPM) based on Lean Construction methods; whose general technical framework is incorporated to collaborative project management models to form the IPD; since through a vast literature, academia and multiple case studies of global context, it is supported and concluded that the significant improvement of performance on site is achieved by concurrently implementing both methodologies. Consequently, this paper reviews the literature of both methodologies in order to show the benefits of integrating IPD collaborative methods with efficient information management, common data environment, concurrent engineering sessions and VDC production methods; He also explains that from the identification and analysis of the current traditional management processes developed by the technical areas of projects and works of the Engineering Service of the Peruvian Air Force, as opposed to the good management practices of the IPD and VDC, it was determined the need to develop “Collaborative Management Protocols“ for the administration of building works contracts, with the intention of helping these technical areas to have the initial know-how to reformulate and/or dismiss the use of traditional technical management processes, whose execution, as in other public entities, consists of aspects that do not contribute to the projects, such as the non-identification of technical alerts, reprocesses, non-contributory times, isolated work, as well as the increase of deadlines and the objective cost of the same.
