As a result of the pandemic caused by COVID-19, the Peruvian State closed its regular basic education schools. Many of them, in order not to interrupt the educational service, migrated to online learning as an emergency measure. Faced by this situation, management teams faced challenges and sought solutions to ensure quality learning. This research analyzed the perceptions on collaborative work of a team of directors and coordinators, who faced the changes caused by the school closure. This analysis was carried out through qualitative phenomenological research with semi-structured interviews with 11 directors (coordinators and principals) of a private school in Lima. We can conclude that the participants assumed that collaborative work in management teams allows complementary visions of complex situations, deep reflections, greater solution alternatives and commitment to the achievement of objectives. In addition, it has been identified that participants value positive interdependence. Similarly, they assume that it is important to promote the development of autonomy, maintain communication based on trust and develop appropriate institutional knowledge management. As mentioned by the interviewees, these actions made it possible to value people and their knowledge in order to develop real-time and asynchronous information exchange channels that maintain the clarity of the message and the generation of new knowledge. Finally, it was found that the interviewees perceive that the role of the team leader is fundamental for the collaborative vision to be installed in the institution.
