Peru is a country exposed to various natural hazards that put its civil infrastructure at risk. One of these threats many times is caused by the heavy rains that often occur during the action of the El Niño phenomenon. These kinds of events activate the riverbeds and streams in areas where there are usually bridges that allow the flow of people; merchandise, among others, resulting in the collapse of these being in many cases, these are due to the undermining of pillars or abutments. The risk of undermining is a parameter that becomes more relevant depending on the importance of the affected bridge. In this sense, the present research work has focused its efforts on the study of the undermining of the “Malecón de la Amistad” bridge. The main objective of this research is to calculate, analyze and compare the total scour produced in the support base of the Bridge studied using a one-dimensional and stability model; for this reason, we have used the HEC RAS and SLIDE software. As part of the methodology, we have analyzed the undermining calculation algorithms available in the technical literature; subsequently, we have identified the parameters that have the greater influence on the simulation of the undermining process. Finally, we have made a stability analysis considering two scenarios in a natural state and with a SLIDE structure. The main conclusion that we obtained was that the total scour reaches an average value of 2.31m, with a safety factor FS> 1.1.
