Decision-making for investments is complex and variable because under these investment alternatives we can find intangible financial products. The results are non-predictable and the financial risk is significant if a wrong decision is made, taking into consideration that financial markets have been affected during the last few years because of the low dynamism in most of the main developed economies. This thesis shows three kinds of postures from authors regarding investment decision-making from a theoretical perspective and through empirical work. On the one hand, investment decision-making is considered by some authors under the conventional economic theory approach as a rational process, which unfolds in a context with complete information, use of resources, and information analysis. However, a non-rational position is presented, in which authors point out that during this process, the investor is influenced and acts guided by certain behaviors that predominate in his decision, which some authors have classified as behavioral finance and behavioral psychology. Finally, an ambivalent position is evident, where the authors mention that investment decisions are not made solely under a process of conscious or controlled analysis. The behavioral approach of the decision-maker must also be considered. This position includes a mixture of rational and emotional aspects such as personality characteristics, emotional intelligence, as well as the perception of the socioeconomic environment.
