Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) is a system that offers distinct characteristics from regular public transport in terms of service. It uses dedicated lanes, complemented by stations located at certain distances that allow for a continuous flow of buses. However, the system suffers from a problem in the development of its mobility. This is due to the existence of signalised intersections located on BRT routes, whose phases do not present an adaptive environment and impede the uninterrupted flow of buses. The purpose of this research is to improve this situation by proposing an applied traffic light that allows the continuous flow of buses at signalised intersections. Field visits were made to the intersection of Av. Habich and Tupac Amaru, near the UNI BRT station. Data was then collected from the area such as traffic light phases, vehicle, and pedestrian counts. Average vehicle speeds, crossing times and delays were also obtained. These were used to develop a microsimulation model of the current situation in VISSIM, which was calibrated and validated. Subsequently, vehicle and pedestrian traffic volumes were projected for 5 years, and a traffic light proposal was implemented in VisVAP. With this, a comparison was made between the current and proposed model of the intersection. Finally, a reduction of up to 37% in BRT delays by control and a minimum 5% reduction in the number of vehicle conflicts was obtained after analysis of the generated SSAM models.
