The thesis aims to propose an alternative solution to the rapid setting of concrete in Lima, since the problems of accelerated setting of concrete are the loss of flow properties, the creation of cold joints, decreased axial resistance, deterioration of the steel reinforcement; and finally, an architectural consequence is the creation of imperfections in the concrete. Commercial admixtures are available to address rapid setting, but the factor that inhibits their use is high cost. It is for this reason that it is necessary to look for new alternatives. In this thesis we propose the use of sucrose (sugar) to solve the fast setting of the concrete. To validate our proposal we used mathematical models that allowed us to estimate and analyze the setting times of concrete in hot climates. For this purpose, we defined 3 concrete mix designs, the first one without any additive, the second one with a water reducer and the third one with sucrose in 1% of the weight of the cement. For the first design we consulted researches to determine setting times, and for the second and third ones we obtained hydration parameters, with which we estimated setting times by applying the mathematical model. Likewise, an economic analysis was made where it was observed that the cheapest alternative per m3 of concrete is the use of sucrose, since comparing higher doses between sugar (1%) and commercial additive (0.6%) give values of S/. 374.49 and S/.374.69, respectively.
