Codependency is a form of condition where the relative of the addict focuses his life on him, having the inability to set limits, assuming the responsibilities of the other and neglecting himself. This means that, instead of limiting the addict's substance use, situations are fostered to continue with it. The objective of the research is to carry out a systematic review on studies carried out in relatives of consumers of psychoactive substances related to codependency published in the Scopus database between the years 2013-2022. The method with which this research was carried out was the systematic review, specifically, articles published in Spanish, English and Portuguese. As a result, from a total of 241 studies found, after the screening process and verification of the exclusion and inclusion criteria, 10 articles were selected as units of analysis following the PRISMA methodology. Among the main findings, it was found that despite the fact that the origin of codependency is more than 50 years old, a consensus has not yet been established to unify a diagnostic criterion. The largest amount of research was published in the last two years. The majority of codependents seek help in self-help groups, and no studies have been found on the treatment of codependency from psychology. This article is the first systematic review carried out on codependency in relatives of psychoactive substance users in the last decade and allows us to draw the starting line for future research.
