Traffic congestion is a problem around the world. This is due to automotive growth, population growth and urban expansion. For this reason, the road infrastructure, which has been in service for years, can no longer fulfill what was assigned to it, causing delays in travel times and great economic losses. Therefore, the present investigation intends to reduce the travel times of public transport vehicles, modifying the current geometric design and implementing a new infrastructure for bus stops at the intersection of Av. Salvador Allende and Av. San Juan in the district of San Juan de Miraflores. For this purpose, a microsimulation model was developed in the Vissim software, which was calibrated and validated with the travel time efficiency parameter. This model will serve as a practical tool to test the design proposals proposed for this intersection without the need for physical intervention. Referring to the evaluation of the current design and the intersection improvement design, it was obtained that the proposed proposals were beneficial, since travel times were reduced by an average of 35%, queue lengths decreased by an average of 50% and the level of service improved from F to D. Finally, the objective of this investigation was achieved, optimizing the travel times of public transport according to the specified modifications; However, we should have an urban road design manual typical of our country, which integrates the problematic reality that surrounds us.
