Over the years, various trade measures have been applied by the Ecuadorian government that have harmed the export of Peruvian onions to that country. Based on a mixed methodology and the gravitational trade model, this research delves into the commercial influence generated by the application of MSF due to the presence of pesticides, OTC due to technical regulations and MDC through safeguards due to price difference. in 2010; and the balance of payments in 2015. Regarding the MSF, despite the incentives to resume the legal commercialization of Peruvian onion to Ecuador, the presence of these measures continues to have a negative impact on exports, their entry being blocked until now. Secondly, the OTCs showed a positive influence on the volume exported due to international competitiveness and the ability to comply with technical regulations to satisfy the need of the Ecuadorian consumer. Third, on the MDC, onion exports are negatively affected depending on the application mechanisms such as the tariff surcharge. These non-tariff measures have promoted smuggling across the border, which decreases competitiveness and damages Ecuador's internal market. Therefore, both countries are harmed. The application of measures lacking adequate technical support, the lack of efficient communication between SENASA and AGROCALIDAD and the lack of cooperation between the competent entities, have not yet allowed a solution to be achieved.
