The history of violence and the appearance of depressive symptoms are issues that have currently shown to have a strong association in multiple investigations. However, there is no extensive literature related to this problem. The present study is of great relevance in areas of public health, psychiatry, family medicine, among others, its Objective is: to identify the association between history of aggression from the father towards the mother and depression in women with children under 5 years according to the Family Health Demographic Survey (Encuesta Demográfica de Salud Familiar- ENDES) during the years 2015-2019. Material and Method: analytical cross-sectional study secondary to the ENDES-Peru database. The population studied was women in reproductive age with children under 5 years. The history of aggression of the father towards the mother was measured by self-report; and depression through depressive symptoms using questions from the PHQ9, with a cut-off point of 10 or more; classifying it in 1 for those without or with mild symptoms and 0 for those with moderate to severe symptoms. For the crude and adjusted multivariate analysis, a generalized linear model (GLM) of the family and log poisson link option was used. Results: it was identified that mothers with history of aggression from the father towards their mother had 58% more probability of presenting moderate or severe depressive symptoms compared to mothers who didn´t have a history of aggression (PRa 1.58, CI 95% 1.39 – 1.79; p <0.001) adjusted by age, current place of residence, mother tongue, socioeconomic level, marital status. Conclusion: An association was found between the history of aggression from the father towards the mother and the presence of depressive symptoms in women with children under 5 years.
