Introduction: cystic fibrosis (CF) is a genetic disease that mainly affects the lungs, pancreas and small intestine. Many factors could have an impact on the quality of life of carers in charge of CF patients, as it is defined as a multifactorial wellbeing. There are very limited studies in Latin America. The aim of this study is to explore the factors associated with these carers’ quality of life. Materials and methods: we performed an analytical cross-sectional study. Through a census, 52 carers were interviewed and asked to answer the Adult Carer Quality of Life (AC-QoL) questionnaire to measure the outcome, the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) and other standardized questions for the remaining factors. Results: 84.6% of participants were women and the mean age was 36.6 years (SD 8.7). 29% of the participants did not have a high quality of life and 50% of them had depressive symptoms 14 days before the interview. There was an association between not having high quality of life and a higher age of the carer, carer 's depressive symptoms and the number of patient hospitalizations. Conclusion: carers that had depressive symptoms had a 4.6 greater probability of having not having a high quality of life than those who did not. Additionally, for every year of increase in the carer 's age, the probability of not having a high quality of life has a 10% increase. This study provides information about the characteristics of carers and CF patients in Peru.
