Introduction: The Internet is a means of mass communication that can intervene in various sectors; for example, computer science, education, human resources development and health. Healthy and ill adult residents are more likely to search the internet for data on their condition, which could influence their decisions regarding the management of their pathology. In view of the lack of local studies, we decided to carry out this work with the objective of determining if sick adult residents treated in a hospital are more likely to search the internet for data on their condition and thus take this medium into account as part of the patient care process Methodology: a cross-sectional analytical study was carried out, including adult patients who were already treated by external consultation at the Edgardo Rebagliati Martins Hospital, interviewed at the entrance and / or exit door Conclusions: In the first place, we observed that 91.88% of our study population used the Internet to search for health information. Secondly, it can be observed that the greater the use of the Internet, the less they value the Internet as a good source of health. This is possibly due to the vast amount of information or erroneous data found on the internet and the lack of an easily accessible and easy-to-understand website for patients.
