Objective: To determine the association between the perception of the risk of contracting COVID-19 and the preventive measures that are taken against the pandemic in adult Facebook users in Lima and Callao, Peru. Method: cross-sectional analytical study in adult Facebook users in Lima and Callao, Peru. The respondents were adults over 18 years old who participated in the survey via Facebook other than health personnel. 356 people were surveyed. Standardized questions were used. Data were analyzed using STATA version 15 using Poisson regression with robust variance where crude PRs were calculated and adjusted with 95% CI. Results: The study had greater male participation (51.8%), with a median of 44.0 years (IQR 26.0, 55.0). On the other hand, people who did not have a dangerous perception of the virus were 1.6 times more likely to not always wash their hands properly (p = 0.003) and 1.3 times more likely to not always comply with the minimum distance (p <0.001), all this adjusted for sex, age, level of education, number of illnesses and having a deceased relative with COVID-19. Likewise, participants who were not considered risk subjects were 1.5 times more likely to not always wash their hands properly (p = 0.03). Conclusions: The present study shows that people who did not care about the new virus, who were not afraid of it, who considered that prevention measures were not effective or who believed that the virus was not dangerous did not always carry out preventive practices.
