The objective of this investigation is to analyze the relationship between economic growth of the departments of Peru and its impact on environmental quality. This relationship is going to be evaluated for the 24 departments of Peru between the years 2006 - 2020. For research purposes, the generalized method of moments (GMM) was used through the use of a dynamic panel. The inclusion of the departmental analysis gives a bigger value to the research since it seeks to use the differentiated effects of economic growth in the departments to assess its impact on the quality of the environment. The main variable that was sought to be evaluated in this model is the variable of mining income corresponding to the departments that have mining production. This based on the estimations made by the proposed econometric model, it was found that factors such as the unemployment rate, regulated electricity production and the number of vehicles in circulation used as economic growth variables have a significant impact on CO2 emissions. While other variables, such as income concentration, show a negative impact on CO2 emissions, reflecting heterogeneous behaviors between regions.
