In 2017, Peru suffered the consequences of the weather phenomenon known as El Niño Costero, the overflowing of rivers and landslides caused by the heavy rains produced, leaving a great balance of economic losses and human lives. The Piura region was one of the most affected, the Piura River flow reached 3,100 m3 / s, an extraordinary value that left the bridges disabled for vehicular traffic due to fear of a possible collapse. Considering that scouring in bridges is one of the main causes of collapse, the present research aims to validate the proposal for the installation of collars to reduce local scouring in the pillars of the Andrés Avelino Cáceres bridge, located in Piura and above the river that bears the same name. Based on geological and hydrological data from the study area, the research proposes to carry out an analysis of the local scour through numerical modeling in the HEC-RAS (1D) and Iber (2D) software, making a comparison between scenarios without the applying the collars to the pillars and installing these protections.
