The wine sector in Peru is made up of various products derived from the vine, including Peruvian wine, whose export level has had different upturns in different years, however, it is observed that from 2016 onwards, this has had a positive trend curve mainly due to the efforts of the main industrial and semi-industrial wineries that lead Peru's exports, such as Queirolo, Tabernero, Tacama and others, located mainly in the Ica region, the department where the largest production of grapes, pisco and wine in the country is concentrated. Wineries are looking for Peruvian wine to have a position abroad, however, many of them are unable to meet international demand, so they incur unions with other wineries or often have to import from neighboring countries such as Argentina or Chile to cover the order. In Peru there are many developing wineries that do not have the capital, vision, quality, among other factors; to perfect the wine, so they opt for an artisanal process in order to only market nationally. Even so, some wineries seek to take their product abroad, however the barriers that are generated are related to costs, production capacity and, to a lesser extent, quality. Likewise, many wineries seek the path of internationalization for reasons such as expanding the market, increasing profitability, improving brand recognition and because of the low per capita consumption of the Peruvian market compared to other countries in the region. Also, prior to addressing the issue, various terms that will be used throughout the work were clarified and explained. On the one hand, the key terms of the work were defined. On the other hand, the terms related to the dependent variable and the independent variables were defined. Finally, the theoretical bases were established, such as the theories of internalization, competitive advantage, cluster and external factors. In this sense, the main objective of this research is to know the relationship between the characteristics of the wineries in the Ica region and their export performance in the period from 2016 to 2019. For this, a mixed research approach was used to for the qualitative approach, semi-structured interviews were conducted with seven experts in the wine industry, and for the quantitative approach, a Likert-scale survey was conducted with twenty professionals with extensive experience in the field and collaborators from companies selected from the sample. ATLAS TI software was used for qualitative data processing and SPSS software was used for quantitative data processing. Finally, among the main results obtained in the investigation, they showed that there is an important relationship between the characteristics of a winery and its performance as an exporter, since it will depend directly on what stage the company is in so that it has higher international sales. Likewise, the productive and export capacity is directly related to the export performance due to the high volumes demanded by international markets. However, quality has a low relationship with respect to export performance in wineries, since Peruvian wine is currently not considered of good quality internationally and quality standards at the local level are not very demanding. Therefore, it is concluded that the intervention of private companies in the agricultural sector has been essential to promote the wine industry and achieve an image and identity that will contribute to reliability when buying Peruvian wine abroad.
