Objective: Evaluate the association between psychological distress (PD) and the frequency of consumption of sweet and salty snacks in adults during the COVID-19 pandemic. Materials and Methods: Secondary analysis of the Corona Cooking Survey database that collected information on population over 18 years of age in 38 countries worldwide. PD was estimated using the Kessler 6 questionnaire and classified as low (≤ 4 points), moderate (≥ 5 to 12 points), and high (≥13 points). The frequency of consumption of sweet and salty snacks was analyzed separately and categorized as high and low consumption. Chi2 test was used for bivariate analysis and crude and adjusted Poisson regression was performed for multivariate analysis. Results: Data from 37201 individuals were analyzed. 30.7% and 54.9% presented high and moderate MP, respectively. 62.9% had high consumption of sweet snacks and 45.0% had high consumption of salty snacks. It was found in all countries, that the higher the level of PD, the higher the percentage of people with high consumption of salty snacks (low: 38.8%, moderate: 45.6%, high: 50.8%; p<0.001) and sweet snacks (low: 58.6%, moderate: 64.2%, high: 64.5%, p<0.001). The adjusted model showed that those with high PD were 4% (PR = 1.04; 95% CI: 1.03 - 1.05; p<0.001) more likely to have a high frequency of sweet snack consumption and 7% (PR = 1.07; 95% CI: 1.06 - 1.08; p<0.001) more likely to have a high frequency of salty snack consumption. Conclusion: The higher the level of psychological distress, the higher the consumption of sweet and salty snacks.
