The objective of this research is to determine the factors that impacted consumer purchase behavior in the digital retail channel during the COVID-19 pandemic. To this end, a structural model that included both the factors related to the acceptance and use of technology that, since before the pandemic, had already been increasing the consumer's trend to purchase online (practicality, less effort, social influence) as well as the factors related to the panic caused by the pandemic and that enhanced online purchases due to the risk beliefs towards being outside (stress, perception of severity of the pandemic, and social distancing due to fear of contact). The model was based on previous literature that analyzed the impact of factors related to technology adoption before the pandemic and factors related to panic after the arrival of the pandemic. The study was carried out through an online survey conducted on a sample of 282 online shoppers over 18 years of age in Metropolitan Lima. The data -collected from an instrument that was previously validated by three experts in retail trade- were processed through confirmatory factor analysis and a correlational analysis that allowed validating the content of each variable as well as their relationships. Regarding the factors related to technology adoption, it was validated the impact of (a) performance expectation or buyer’s perception about the efficiencies motivated by online purchases; (b) the effort expectations or degree of ease associated with the online purchases; and (c) the social influence or degree a consumer consider that they may buy online because other people’s recommendations. Regarding the factors related to panic, it was verified the impact of (a) psychological stress or anxiety produced by the news about COVID-19; (b) social distancing or the tendency to take distance from others to avoid contagion and; (c) the severity perception or the extent to which respondents believe that COVID-19 is a serious threat. Purchase intention was previously validated as a predictor of purchasing behavior. As part of this study, the high incidence of three variables was also verified, such as (a) the quality of the information published by ecommerce platforms, (b) the perception of security offered by said platforms, and (c) privacy when using personal information from such websites on online consumer confidence in the use of ecommerce platforms, since this factor significantly influences on purchase intention due to technological adoption and it was relevant to identify its principal components to better generate research recommendations.
