In recent years, mining has been evolving and adapting its operational schemes focusing on the search for continuous improvement in each of the processes involved in the mining cycle. For this reason, it is necessary to visualize each of the activities involved, such as hauling and transportation, which are those that have a greater productive and economic impact on the overall mining process. This research proposes to reduce the unproductive times of the hauling and transportation processes of Canta mine, through the application of the Lean Six Sigma methodology, this methodology provides a new perspective or approach to continuous improvement, linked to achieve the highest degree of quality in the processes, allowing to form an organized and powerful method to solve the problems encountered. This methodology uses the DMAIC cycle (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control), which begins by detecting opportunities for improvement from the beginning of loading work to the phase prior to transport to the plant, based on the use of methodology indicators such as process capacity and sigma level, and the analysis of operating performance. Subsequently, the times that generate value and those that do not were segmented, and finally, based on the results obtained, improvement alternatives were proposed and implemented, quantifying their impact on the hauling and transportation cycle times. The results show an improvement in the hauling process, where the sigma level indicator increased from 0.77 to 3.44. Likewise, with respect to operating yields, there was a 4% increase from 3.74 ton/hr to 3.90 ton/hr on average. On the other hand, with respect to the transportation process, the sigma level increased from 1.31 to 3.34. Consequently, as a result of these improvements, the average tonnage of ore moved also increased from 361 MT to 385 MT per fortnight. Finally, it was concluded that it was possible to reduce unproductive times in the cycle by 7%.
