The relationship between macroeconomic variables (such as money supply, exchange rate, GDP, interest rate, among others) and stock prices has been discussed on many occasions by empirical evidence. However, there is a gap in the literature when it comes to the relationship between macroeconomic variables and stock prices at the sector level. This paper seeks to analyze how the different macroeconomic variables impact the stock prices, considering different sectors through a Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) with the Johansen methodology for the Peruvian economy since March 2011 to January 2022 monthly through the shares listed on the Lima Stock Exchange. The sectors are represented by; Finance and Real Estate, Industrial, Mining, Public Services and Consumption, likewise, the IGBVL is also considered. On the side of macroeconomic variables, we have the money supply (Real Money), the exchange rate (USD/PEN), the interest rate (R), the consumer price index (CPI) and real production (GDP). The results show that the macroeconomic variables considered in the analysis have differentiated effects on the sectors considered in the work. In this sense, the findings show that Real Money positively affects the IGBVL and the Public Services and Consumption sectors, while with the Industrial sector the effect is positive. The USD/PEN has a positive impact on the IGBVL and the Mining and Public Services sectors, and a negative impact on the Industrial sector. On the other hand, R only has a positive relationship with the Utilities and Consumer sectors. Likewise, the results show a negative effect of the CPI on the IGBVL and the Financial and Real Estate, Mining, Public Services and Consumption sectors, however, the positive effect of the CPI is evident with the Industrial sector. Finally, the GDP positively influences the IGBVL and the Financial and Real Estate, Mining, Public Services and Consumption sectors, and negatively influences the Industrial sector.
