Objective To verify the association between depression and chronic low back pain in university students from the Faculty of Health Sciences of the UPC. Materials and methods An analytical cross-sectional study was carried out with a total of 216 participants, university students belonging to the Faculty of Health Sciences. The following research instruments were used: General Data questionnaire, Nordic lumbar section questionnaire, Oswestry Low Back Pain Disability Scale (ODI) and Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS-21). In relation to the analysis of variables, Poisson regression with robust variance was used, where crude and adjusted RP were calculated with a CI of 95%. Results 68.98% (n= 149) of the participants were female and 31.02% male. According to the Nordic Questionnaire, 64.81% (n= 140) of the participants had chronic low back pain for a period of 12 months. In addition, according to the Oswestry Low Back Pain Disability Scale (ODI), 90.68% (n= 107) of the total indicated having disability due to low back pain. Finally, 48.61% (n= 105) reported having symptoms of depression. In this study, no association was found between depression and chronic low back pain (p>0.05). Conclusions Depression was not associated with suffering from chronic low back pain in university students from the Faculty of Health Sciences of the UPC.
