Background: the presence of a child with Down syndrome generates an imbalance in family dynamics and in the development that parents have with their children, since in order to face these difficult situations they need to have a more flexible openness towards parenthood and use personal resources. Objective: to determine the relationship between coping with stress focused on the problem and attitudes towards parenthood in 107 parents with children with Down syndrome (84 women and 23 men, M age = 37.07 years, SD = 9.24). Method: the Scale of Coping with Stress in Parents with children with disabilities and the Scale of Attitudes towards parenthood were applied. Results: greater coping is related to greater positive attitudes (r = .374). Likewise, regarding the comparisons made, statistically significant differences and a moderate effect size are evidenced in favor of women. Conclusions: the relationship found contributes to the development of coping strategies focused on the problem because it can be corroborated that this would improve the parents' attitude towards their fatherhood.
