This research examines the English into Latin American Spanish dubbing and subtitling of the Netflix original GLOW series. The analysis is focused on humor based on ethnic and national stereotypes. This humor is introduced in the series through the characterization of four women participating in a wrestling show, whose characters in the ring represent parodies of stereotypes of American society in the 1980s. Criticism of ethnic and international conflicts concerning the United States may be difficult for the target audience to understand. The study covers the characterization in audiovisual translation from a multimodal approach taking into account the interaction among verbal and visual elements. The Latin American Spanish dubbed and subtitled product preserves the humorous purpose, but omits some cultural references. While the loss of these contents does not significantly affect the humorous component of the parody, it has a greater impact on its critical component, as the omitted cultural references are usually part of the criticism.
