Introduction: Venezuela has a large migratory flow and other countries became recipients such as Peru. It evaluated the prevalence and relationship between self-reported emotional distress in Venezuelan migrants residing in Peru in 2018 and associated factors will be evaluated according to sociodemographic, migratory, health and work characteristics. The objective of this study is to analyze the factors associated with emotional stress in Venezuelan immigrants. Design and main results measures: Analytical cross-sectional study, analyzed database of Survey Directed to Venezuelan Population residing in Peru (ENPOVE) - National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in 2018. Categorical variables described by frequencies and percentages, numerical by mean and standard deviation. Bivariate analysis used Chi-square and multivariate Poisson regression to calculate prevalence ratio (PR) with 95% CI and “p” <0.05. The self-reported emotional distress variable was evaluated through the response to “Since your arrival in Peru, have you presented any discomfort or problem such as: depression, fear, anger, anxiety, stress?“, with the categories of “no“ and “yes“. Adjustment for sociodemographic variables according to epidemiological criteria such as sex, age, marital status, level of education, socioeconomic stratum, year of admission, city, route, traveling with a relative, non-relative or alone, illness, affiliation to Essalud, work in the last week and job. Results: Total of 8,635 Venezuelan migrants, only 7,619 met the inclusion criteria. Majority were male, representing 52.59%, while the average age was 31.32 years and the majority were young, with 52.02%. In migratory characteristics, the year of entry to Peru with the highest percentage was 2018 with 76.15%. The prevalence of self-reported emotional distress was 6.35%. It was shown that the female gender has 1.92 times the probability of developing self-reported emotional distress in relation to males (95% CI: 1.34 - 2.74; p=0.001). The medium socioeconomic stratum has 3.26 times the probability of developing self-reported emotional distress in relation to those from low (95% CI 1.49 - 7.15; p=0.003), while the high stratum has 2.86 times the probability of developing self-reported emotional distress in relation to low (95% CI 1.23 – 6.64; p=0.014). Conclusions: Women are 1.92 times likely to develop emotional distress. Medium stratum has 3.26 times the probability of developing it in relation to low and high has 2.86. Northern Region are 0.66% times less likely versus Lima. Results were obtained in the destination and interception phase and can be used to implement mental health interventions to improve the quality of life of migrants.
