The present study aims to contrast relevant perspectives on the convenience of expanding in an accelerated or gradual manner in the internationalization process of companies. To this end, major models or theories, such as Uppsala, Born Global, and mixed theory, were reviewed. The Uppsala model explains a process of international expansion in stages, in order to obtain business profitability in a more secure way, mitigating risks and reducing financial resources. On the other hand, the Born Global theory explains an expansion process of international scope from the beginning of commercial operations, avoiding the stages described in the gradual model, through the use of technological means and digital platforms. Mixed theories are based on trust and family integrity; these influence the decision to explore new markets, study the strategic pattern that begins from the consolidation of the national market and subsequent international expansion at different times or gradually through passive export, distribution or directly. Under any of the chosen strategies, companies can decide to expand in an accelerated or gradual manner, with the benefits and risks derived from each decision. The analysis seeks to contrast different perspectives regarding the convenience of an accelerated or gradual expansion, a discussion that configures the central controversy of this work and that is summarized in the conclusions. Finally, new lines of research on the subject are suggested.
