The present research aims to provide greater highway capacity and urban space order of Alfredo Benavides Avenue in the section between Velasco Astete Avenue and Morro Solar Jiron (Benavides Bridge’s) in the District of Santiago de Surco - Lima. To do this, it proposes to eliminate the berms presented by the road in both directions which are used by private vehicles as a parking area. Therefore, it is proposed to add an exclusive bus lane which benefits vehicular fluidity by transforming the current scenario of 2 mixed-use lanes to a 3-lane scenario (1 segregated and 2 for private vehicle use). For the development of the research, the HCM Manual 2010 and the book “Elements of the Vehicle Traffic Theory“ were used to calculate the capacity of the road and the capacity of the bus stops respectively; in turn, AIMSUN v7.0 software was used for simulation and calibration of the model. These were useful to determine the main comparisons of the 2-lane (current) and 3-lane (proposed) scenarios. In addition, the validity of the proposal was analyzed to determine the time in which the solution is effective. As a consequence, one of the main results obtained was an improvement in road capacity by 60% compared to the initial state.
