Comics, a widely accepted means of entertainment in the popular culture, have proved to work as a device to support historically repressed groups and communities such as the LGBTQ+, hence its studies in different academic fields. For Translation in particular, comics represent a challenge due to the interrelationship of its visual, textual, and semiotic elements. Although there are some studies concerning the translation of LGBTQ-themed comics, none of them have gone in depth into how sexual dissidences were translated, specifically in Spanish. Therefore, this investigation aims to analyze how sexual dissidences were characterized in the Spanish translation of The Essential Dykes to Watch Out For (Bechdel, 2008). We start from the premise that such comic strip seeks to transgress the heteronormative notions of gender and that its Spanish translation may have influenced this purpose. Thus, our investigation will use a qualitative approach along with case studies as a research strategy. In addition, to fulfil our specific objectives, two techniques will be applied: multimodal content analysis and multimodal contrast analysis. As for the former, we have selected categories considering the postulates on queer, gender, and sexuality theories; as for the latter, we will employ a contrastive sheet that applies multimodality and critical discourse analysis postulates.
