When a parking maneuver is carried out on track, an alteration in the normal cars flow is generated. Furthermore, if we talk about a signalized intersection, the repercussion could be magnified because of the influence of the length cycle. When a parking maneuver is performed near a signalized intersection, it is possible to generate queues behind the car which is making the parking maneuver and, in some cases, letting several users unable to use the intersection; It is therefore necessary to analyze the relation between the on-street parking lots and their impact on the intersection performance. This paper presents a procedure to find a minimum length restriction for on-street parking, by characterizing the intersection based on a hydrodynamic theory of traffic flow. To illustrate the process, a case is presented in which a 34 per cent decrease in the impact on performance caused by parking maneuvers was achieved, by restricting 3 on-street parking lots equivalent to 13.2 meters.
