The present research work is focused on study the stabilization procedure of clay soils with lime and determine the optimum content of the stabilizer that ensures a significant increase in the support capacity of the subgrade for flexible pavements. The study zone and where the samples were extracted is the town of Villa Rica, progressive 3 + 000 km from the Oconal-Cedropampa highway. Lime as a stabilizing agent has water absorption properties and improves the resistance of clay soils by encapsulating clay particles. That is, when lime interacts with clay particles, a flocculation effect is produced, creating a diffuse double layer that reduces the potential for swelling and expansion of fine soils and increasing the penetration resistance. It has been made granulometry test, sedimentation, consistency limits, specific gravity, modified proctor and the CBR test for soil samples in the natural state and with percentages of 9%, 15% and 21% lime. In addition, has been made soil classification by the method of the AASHTO and SUCS method to complement the necessary calculations. The optimal percentage of lime found was 15%, which increases the CBR value of the soil from 3.3% to 5.9%.In addition, has been made a comparative cost analysis of the pavement structure design was performed, where a design was modeled on a subgrade in the natural state and another in an improved state with the optimum percentage of lime found.
