Introduction: Hospital malnutrition is a global health problem, found in up to 90% of health facilities in Latin America. Children under five years, due to the disease and therapeutic processes during hospitalization, present deterioration in their nutritional status. Methods: Retrospective cohort study that included children from 6 months to 5 years admitted in Sergio E. Bernales National Hospital during 2015-2016. Fisher exact test was used for categorical variables, and Mann Whitney U tests, for numerical ones. The multivariate analysis was performed using a Poisson regression model for the calculation of the RR with their respective 95% confidence intervals (95% CI). Results: The prevalence of hospital malnutrition was 18,2%, with a median of stay of 3 days (IR: 2-4 days). Hospital malnutrition and a stay of 3 or more days showed a significant association (p=<0,003). For each additional hospitalized day, the risk of hospital malnutrition increased by 59% (p<0,001). Conclusions: There is nutritional deterioration in hospitalized patients and a longer length of stay increases the risk of hospital malnutrition.
