Objective. To determine the association between the type of career and attitudes toward interprofessional collaboration in health science students. Materials and methods. Cross-sectional study. Students of medicine, dentistry, nutrition and dietetics and physical therapy of the last years at a Peruvian private university were surveyed. The Jefferson Scale of attitudes toward interprofessional collaboration (JeffSATIC) was applied to measure the main variable. It consists of a survey of 20 questions whose score ranges from 20 to 140 points, where a higher score represents greater skills for interprofessional collaboration. Linear regression was used to calculate crude and adjusted betas with a 95% CI. Results. 540 undergraduate students were included, 78.3% were medical students. Dental students obtained a highest score on the scale of interprofessional collaboration and medical students obtained the lowest score of the four careers. Dentistry and physical therapy obtained 3,53 (CI: 1.73 to 5.34, p <0.001) and 2.76 (CI: 1.11 to 4.41, p = 0,001) more points in the JeffSATIC scale respectively, with respect to the medical students. Conclusions. Careers in health sciences presented differences in the level of interprofessional collaboration; Medicine showed a lower level of attitudes toward interprofessional collaboration, while dentistry presented higher scores. More research is needed, of longitudinal nature.
