Purpose: To determine the association between body dymorphic disorder (BDD) and social anxiety (SA) in dermatologic outpatients who attended a private clinic in Lima – Peru between January and May of 2018. Methods: A transversal analytic study was done. In the survey, sociodemographic variables were recollected such as sex, age, marital status and level of education. To measure BDD, the Body Dysmorphic Disorder Questionnaire was used in an auto-applied form, and the Liebowitz Scale for Social Anxiety was used to assess SA. These were previously translated and validated to Spanish. In the univariable analysis, percentages were used for categorical variables and mean and interquartilic range was used for quantitative variables. In the bivariate analysis, Chi square test and Fischer were used por categorical variables and U Mann Whitney was used for quantitative variables. In every hypothesis test, a p value <0.05 was considered. In the multivariate analysis, a lineal model of Poisson was used.. The analysis was made in STATA 14. Results: As Results 690 participants were enrolled; the majority (61,16%) were females. The median age was 34 years (IQR: 22-51) and the vast majority (52,76%) did not have a partner at the moment that the questionnaire was taken. The prevalence of BDD was 52,06% and SA 18,84%. An association between BDD and SA was found (RPa: 1,11; IC95%: 1,08-1,14; p<0,001) and also between age and SA (RPa: 1,00; IC95%: 1,00-1,00; p<0,015). Conclusion: The presence of BDD increases the risk of suffering from SA in dermatologic outpatients in a private clinic in Lima.
