To determine if there is an association between gastroesophageal reflux and sleep quality in medical students. Materials and methods: Observational, cross sectional, analytical study; in which 340 Human Medicine students from the Antenor Orrego Private University, Trujillo - Peru, were included, according to selection criteria which were divided according to the presence or absence of gastroesophageal reflux disease. The chi-square test and the prevalence ratio statistic were calculated. Results: There is sufficient evidence at the 5% level (p < 0.05) to affirm that sleep quality is associated with gastroesophageal reflux disease. The frequency of gastroesophageal reflux disease in Human Medicine students was 75%. The frequency of poor sleep quality in medical students with gastroesophageal reflux was 95.3% and in medical students without gastroesophageal reflux it was 87.1%. Regarding the sociodemographic variables, only the sex variable is associated with gastroesophageal reflux disease (p = 0.001). Conclusions: There is an association between gastroesophageal reflux and sleep quality in medical students. Gastroesophageal reflux disease has a prevalence of 75% in medical students
