Determine the association between patient knowledge about diabetes mellitus and the quality of medical care in patients with type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in the period from June to December 2023. Materials and methods: The present study is cross-sectional, where the people evaluated through the survey were informed and it was carried out voluntarily, addressing the outpatient clinic of the Apoyo Chepén Hospital. Results: The present study showed that 100% (217) of patients with adequate knowledge of their disease have good quality of medical care, while 15% (23) of patients with inadequate knowledge about diabetes mellitus type 2, has good quality of medical care, likewise, 85% (130) have a poor quality of medical care, knowledge having statistical significance for quality of care (p <0.001), in turn, patients with a adequate knowledge about their disease are 6.6 times more likely to have good quality of medical care, with a PR 6.65 (95% CI 4.56 – 9.70). On the other hand, age, sex, marital status, family history of diabetes, diabetes complication, adherence to treatment and type of treatment were variables associated with quality of care, with a (p <0.001). Conclusions: There is a significant association between the patient's knowledge of diabetes mellitus and the quality of medical care, while sex, marital status, family history of diabetes, complications of diabetes, adherence to treatment and type of treatment were associated factors. to the quality of medical care in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, during the period June – December 2023.
